Schools back

It's about that time again to head back to school after a very fast summer break. It went fast because of the field work to start and the house work and travel to cap it all off here in Aug. We have made great strides with the house and it is nice to have those things done. Only going to do a few small projects and the Radon system before we call it quits for this summer. What a difference a few little changes can make.... having the shed seems to have changed the whole garage. Having the sliding door is the most amazing change this year for sure. It was a worth while thing to prioritize. The fence just changed the whole house for the better. Well worth every penny and every drop of sweat and blood. It will pay for it's self 2 times over.

School is....well, school. It's about 7 months of classes left and I'm going to try to commit much more this year than last. Really try to stay and get all that I need to out of every class and clinical.

As for running and climbing and outdoors things.... that's kinda on the back burner for the next 7 months. It's just the way it is. Bummed about it? yes, but this is part of growing up and taking care of something that I just never could have done in the past. Gota have those letters after your name. This is just my turn.

night run

Just got in from a little night run. It brought back memories of the winter I spent in Index, WA running in the rain. That was really the first time in my life that I found the peace that comes from running.

Last week I really took it easy and only ran a handful of miles while fam was here. Ran bluesky in the rain on Sun. and plan to just go with the flow this week leading up to Bighorn on Sat.

Amy and I are going to go up for the race then go flower hunting all the way across the state after. It's funny, the flower that she's studying and we're hurting for happens to grow on the course! It's been found in a remote part of the bighorns. I'm not sure how much I'll be looking for it on race day but after...

big horn 50 training.

so this training for my first race of the summer has been going ok .. i'm feeling a bit untrained and by most standards I am. I did my long run a week ago and it was a 30 miler so it had all that I think I needed in a long run. I did it at a little bit of altitude so that might help too. I've been doing little 2/3 mile runs these last few days and feel ok about it. Folks are talking about seeing LOTS of rattle snakes on the low trails here in FC this summer so I'm going to try and run up a little higher as much as i can. I really want to run round mountain soon. I think that it'll be a great hill climb to tak the place of towwers while it's hotter and snaky down here.

I'm looking forward to running in Wy a few times b/f the race on fri. It's going to be cool to see this new part of the contry and meet other runners and adventures souls.

My main goals for the summer are:
-yosemite valley to mono lake
-grand canyon of the twolome to white wolf.
-Longs peak double
-Longs peak bike n hike
-climb 3 routes at lumpy.
-run around lumpy
-run in the pc northwest.

towers

OK OK OK it's time to think about being outside again...ok, well I think about it all the time. Just in Cali not here in CO. But, I digress. Ran the towers road time trial last night for the first time and got 40:44. best for me I think. I did it with poles and not sure how much of a diff that made. I was in a bad way from the last few weeks of school keeping me in high stress low health kinda way. the diet has been abysmal and oh well it's olmost over for this year so....

to the out of door i go! It was a great group with all kinds of folks i'd never met. I pushed hard and oh man I felt like crap at the top. just felt discomfort in my chest and sick in my belli... but that's OK I guess cause feeling is better than not feeling at all. Being out there was nice it was cloudy and a little but of snow/rain (like 4 drops) came down. We all got to the top and then headed down. Some got there in bettershape than others Nick joged in with a new PR and pete walked it in like 36! Really crazy how this stuff works.. funny that I've been feeling better on the long runs that I've done the last few weekends but then got my butt kicked on towers thur. I'm going ot make my new goal for this season 38:00 min! That's a lot lower than 40:00 but since I've got 44 sec. to get 40 I think wwhat the heck?

Looking forawd to geting to put the last bit of fence in coming up ther in the next week then making some of the other little changes to the house to make it a more amazing place for us.. going to ty and bring back a little more Kreativity to the mix this year think that helps to have in my world anyway, just the way i see the world and no use hiding it if its in there anyway!

Happy day sad day .. who can say ... get out there and find out..

starting out...

So ran a little today ~6 miles... few this morning then some weight lifting then the social run tonight with burgers an beers at alex's after. Fun group and great time after hanging out. We ran down spring creek and had a good time.

I'm really feeling the affects of lifting and think that it's going to be a reg. part of my training. It's so nice to run in the evening with sun light.

I'm wondering about races this summer.... i'm signed up for the bighorn 50 and kinda think I want to run the speed goat over in UT. But, I'm also thinking I'd like to just do my own runs like one from yoesmite valley to mono lake! That seems like heaven. Also like to run pikes, Longs, glacier gorge traverse... So many. We'll see. Running races is kinda fun, but I just think that the adventure and freedom parts of it go a long way for me and what I want out of running in the mtns.

I have to say the weather while we've lived in co has sucked. Hey, at least we live in CO and not somewhere without mtns. so a little bo-hue....

I am excited about not taking summer classes. That;s huge for me. I didn't really know how much that was affecting me, but it was.

out.

gap

as you can see from the gaps in here i've been having a little problem running this winter...but, hey it's winter. really the best time to run? no. But, I like to run so I've been trying. I'm having sore knees so this past 2 weeks i've been doing lots of strength and stretch stuff to try and get these legs happy. I'm looking out our big front window now at heavy wet snow coming down... supposed to be 8" when it's all done wed. night. no shit that sucks. I agree. but hey we do live at 5,000 on the edge of a huge mountain range? what do you expect? We're in a cycle of colder/wetter/nastiness weather just like last year.

I'm up for one 50 miler in june and that'll be interasting cause i'm wanting to get out to cali and climb half dome the week before? maybe not the best plan? We'll see.

OK Ok enough of this back to studying. goal for this week. run ~15 mails pain free and ski on fri.

start it up already...

ran 4 miles on sat. I need to get my grove on. Only thing is I'm pissed that it's been so god dam snowy this winter. I need to make a effort to run 12 miles a week just to start.
